How can I know I will go to Heaven?
34 “Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you suddenly like a trap. 35 For it will come on all those who live on the face of the whole earth. 36 Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man.”
So how can I be ready for His coming? How do I know I will go to Heaven? Well, the first thing that all MUST do to be ready is to receive Jesus into their hearts. How? Well, first we must realize that we NEED Jesus.
Romans 3:23 for all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.
We don’t go to Heaven because we are good or good enough. Every man ever alive has sinned. God who created us is a Holy God. There is no sin found in God or in Heaven. And God will not allow sin into Heaven. So there is just no way for man to earn his way to Heaven because we have all sinned. It doesn’t matter if we are pretty good. Pretty good does not meet the requirement of Holiness. So what we can we do?
Our Father in Heaven, our Creator God did not create us just to die. He wants to have a relationship with us. But because of this great divide….this sin which keeps us from Him…He made a way for us. He sent Jesus, His Son to Earth to redeem all of mankind. Jesus came to Earth and He did not sin. He was killed on a cross, and His blood was shed as an atoning sacrifice for the sin of all mankind. Jesus died for our sins, and was raised from the dead. But each one must accept this gift for their sins to be covered and forgiven. Rejecting this gift means an eternity spent apart from our Creator God.
Romans 10:9-10 That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.
To Accept this gift from God, read this verse above. Confess out loud, “Jesus is Lord”. Believe in your heart that Jesus died for your sins, and He was raised from the dead. If you want to receive this free gift from God, then pray this prayer. This will be the start of your new life as a redeemed Child of God.
“Lord Jesus, I ask You to come into my life and forgive me of all my sins. I confess my sins before You this day. I confess Jesus as the Lord of my life. Thank You for saving me. I believe with my heart and I confess with my mouth that You rose from the dead. I am saved. Write my name in the Lamb’s book of life. I pray this prayer to the Father in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.”
If you prayed this prayer, I want to welcome you as a brother or sister in Christ. But now what? Well, I encourage you to set aside a special time every day to pray. Prayer is simply talking to God. It isn’t some formal memorized prayer. Jesus wants to have a relationship with you. He does not want you to simply recite some memorized prayer. Even though you now belong to God, you still have a sinful nature. This will be with you until you received your glorified body, either at death, or when Jesus comes back for His Bride. His Bride includes all who have received this free gift of salvation from Him. So when we sin, we need to bring those sins to God in prayer, and repent and ask forgiveness for them.
What else do I pray about besides forgiveness? Jesus wants you to give Him all of your worries, all of your troubles. Bring them to him and He said He will bear the burden of these things. He tells us NOT to worry.
And of course we can all pray for those around us to receive His salvation too. Remember Jesus is your friend. When you receive His gift of salvation, He also gives you the gift of His Holy Spirit. This is the Spirit of God. And He will reside within you…..so you will never be alone.
Now, I encourage you to pray all the time. Like I said, prayer does not need to be some formal thing. Prayer is communing with God. So since His Spirit is inside you, He can hear you wherever you are. So talk to Him. He can hear your thoughts, so pray in your head when you can. (otherwise people will think you are nuts, talking to yourself, lol)
Next, the Bible is the Word of God. So if you want to know Jesus, you will want to read His Word. This is a great way to learn who God is and His plan for your life.
Finally, I want you to remember that your salvation is free. It is a gift and is not earned by your works. You may know you are saved through faith. Faith is belief in something not seen. It’s simply believing. Remember none of us are ever good enough to earn our salvation. That is why God sent Jesus to die for our sins. None of us could obtain salvation because we could not live without sinning. So we try to live without sin, but when we do, we can know that Jesus will forgive those sins. The devil will try to whisper lies to you to make you doubt that you are saved. He will try to condemn you and make you believe you will not go to Heaven. But those are lies….do not believe them. You need to keep believing that Jesus has saved you, and forgives you. This makes you Holy and righteous and will give you eternal life in Heaven with God. Because Jesus’ blood covered your sins….all of them.
Now I offer up this prayer for any who accept this gift of salvation from our Father God.
Dear Father, I come to you in the name of Jesus who died for our sins. Lord, I ask you to fill this brother or sister with your Holy Spirit. Please guide them in all their steps. I ask you to bring them supernatural protection from your Holy Angels to keep them from the enemy’s snares. Please teach them through your Word and speak to their hearts about your love and plans for their lives. Please provide all they need until You come for them. I ask you to bless them in Jesus name. Amen.
